"The Book Was Better"

Tis the time for book adaptations!  Here is a list of a few of my favorite books being made into movies or tv shows in the near future!  I highly suggest reading these books before they are forever ruined on celluloid!

HORNS by Joe Hill
Release Date October 11th, 2013

Penned by Stephen King's son, Joe Hill, Horns' is about a boy named Ig Perrish (played by Daniel Radcliffe) who grows horns after his girlfriend is murdered.  The horns are magical of course.  All hell breaks loose and blood and gore ensue.

The 100 by Kass Morgan
Release Date Fall 2013 on the CW

Another YA book set in the post-apocalyptic future, this time the human population is trapped in space due to Earth being ruined by nuclear radiation. 100 years have passed and the government wants to now test out the livability of Earth by sending 100 expendable kids from the space Juvenile Detention center to test it out. Cuz, you know, that shit always turns legal after the apocalypse hits.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Release Date November 1st, 2013

If you don't know what Ender's Game is....you clearly are not a fan of the sic-fi novel.  This was one of the earliest sci-fi novels I remember reading.  It blew my mind.  I loved it.  I went back and read it as an adult and it still held up really well.  The trailer looks pretty true to the book.  It focuses on the government training children as our last hope against aliens.  Yeah, see...that is all legal post-apocolpyse.   Harrison Ford looks old as fuck in it too.  But still bad ass.

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Release Date march 21st, 2014

Okay, I am basically frothing at the mouth over this book series being made into movies.  Many are hailing it as the new Hunger Games, and I get the comparison, but I liked this series so much more.  Set in a future where the population is broken down by personalities (factions).  The book is filled with great characters and I really hope it is translated to film well.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Release Date November 22nd, 2013

Speaking of The Hunger Games....the sequel gets a movie this year!  I personally loved the second of this three part series.  The third fell off for me.  You'll see new characters (Finnick, bitches!) and a new twist to the games that puts Katniss back in danger!

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Release Date August 21st, 2013

Another "frothing at the mouth" one here.  This books series is wonderful (thus far, I haven't read the latest).  This is set in present times (what?! no post-apocolpytic world?!) but our world is not all that it seems.  There are magical and demonic forces at work.  Read this book.  Just read it.  Because as good as the trailer looks, it will not compare to the book.  I already know.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
Release Date August 7th, 2013

I honestly did not even think enough people saw the first Percy Jackson movie to heed a second installment.  I was wrong.  I really liked this book series.  It was cute, fun, and full of retellings of old myths.  The changes they made to the movie really irked me.  Like why is Percy 18 instead of 13?  Why is Annabeth not blonde?  Where the hell is Clarisse? Little things like that annoy the crap out of me. Luckily, at least one of those is rectified in this second movie.  Clarisse finally shows up.

Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin
Release Date unknown

OH MY GAWD THIS BOOK!  Go get this book.  Read it. Then read it again.  It is magical.  Set in an alternate universe where New York is full of magic and victorian values, the book revolves around a thief, a dying girl, and magical gangs.  A ridiculous amount of people are in the movie adaptation; Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly, Will Smith, Russel Crowe, Matt Bomer!  Oh, and there's a pegasus!  WHAT?!

Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters by Richelle Mead
Release Date February 14th, 2014

This is a book series that I started out loving, and then grew very bored with in like book three or four.  Hopefully the movie will recapture some of that old love.  The first book in this series focuses on Rose Hathaway, who is a Dhampir, half human/vampire and the vampire she is sworn to guard.  It's also a love story, though the love triangle really pissed me off in the book because she chose the wrong person.  IMHO.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug by JRR Tolkien
Release Date December 13th, 2013

You have read The Hobbit.  You know what this is.  You have to.  Watch the trailer if you haven't already.  Or hell, just watch it again.  It's amazaballs!  And to all the naysayers who complain about the novel being "dragged out" into three movies:  are you insane?!  We get three awesome movies instead of one!!!  Get over yourselves!
