Chris Evans' Not Handing Down The Cap' Shield Just Yet

In an interview with MTV, Chris Evans spoke about what he loves about the Marvel Universe as a whole, and promised that Captain America 3 would continue down this path:
"It's this giant web of plot, where everything is connected to everything else… that's the beautiful thing and especially for the fanboys who understand these plotlines. With Cap 3, we're going to continue this excitement. Marvel doesn't disappoint. Whatever you're hoping for, you're going to get it."
Evans also addressed the rumor that Cap 3 would be his last outing as Captain America and we would see him hand down the shield to either Bucky or Falcon.
"Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely dude. I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character."
I am so glad to hear it. :)

Jennifer Lee (Frozen) Will Adapt ' A Wrinkle In Time' For Disney

Jennifer Lee, writer and co-director of Disney’s blockbuster Frozen, has been tapped by Disney to adapt one of my favorite childhood books, A Wrinkle In Time.

Squueeeeee!

Let us hope that this adaptation is better than that terrible "made for tv" Disney version from 2003.

No director has been named as of yet, but Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand have already been announced as producers. Jennifer Lee is the second screenwriter to be announced, as Jeff Stockwell (Bridge to Terabithia) worked on the original script when Disney first announced they would adapt A Wrinkle In Time back in 2010.  I am ecstatic that things appear to be finally moving forward.  Hopefully a release date will be announced soon and casting can begin. I wish Emma Watson could be cloned as a young teen and star in this.

I have incredibly high hopes for this movie.  Jennifer Lee has given the impression that she can create memorable strong female leads, and that is what we need for Meg.  Also, now that I have a son, Charles' character really resonates with me.  A little brainiac who prefers to keep his words to himself or close family.

Also, if you have not read A Wrinkle In Time, you are missing out.  It holds up incredibly well now that I'm an adult.  I highly suggest you check it out of your local library. Or if you prefer, there is an amazing graphic novel adaptation by Hope Larson (Chiggers).

And enjoy these adorable character designs by Ruby Chen! Too adorable!

"The Book Was Better"

Tis the time for book adaptations!  Here is a list of a few of my favorite books being made into movies or tv shows in the near future!  I highly suggest reading these books before they are forever ruined on celluloid!

HORNS by Joe Hill
Release Date October 11th, 2013

Penned by Stephen King's son, Joe Hill, Horns' is about a boy named Ig Perrish (played by Daniel Radcliffe) who grows horns after his girlfriend is murdered.  The horns are magical of course.  All hell breaks loose and blood and gore ensue.

The 100 by Kass Morgan
Release Date Fall 2013 on the CW

Another YA book set in the post-apocalyptic future, this time the human population is trapped in space due to Earth being ruined by nuclear radiation. 100 years have passed and the government wants to now test out the livability of Earth by sending 100 expendable kids from the space Juvenile Detention center to test it out. Cuz, you know, that shit always turns legal after the apocalypse hits.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Release Date November 1st, 2013

If you don't know what Ender's Game is....you clearly are not a fan of the sic-fi novel.  This was one of the earliest sci-fi novels I remember reading.  It blew my mind.  I loved it.  I went back and read it as an adult and it still held up really well.  The trailer looks pretty true to the book.  It focuses on the government training children as our last hope against aliens.  Yeah, see...that is all legal post-apocolpyse.   Harrison Ford looks old as fuck in it too.  But still bad ass.

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Release Date march 21st, 2014

Okay, I am basically frothing at the mouth over this book series being made into movies.  Many are hailing it as the new Hunger Games, and I get the comparison, but I liked this series so much more.  Set in a future where the population is broken down by personalities (factions).  The book is filled with great characters and I really hope it is translated to film well.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Release Date November 22nd, 2013

Speaking of The Hunger Games....the sequel gets a movie this year!  I personally loved the second of this three part series.  The third fell off for me.  You'll see new characters (Finnick, bitches!) and a new twist to the games that puts Katniss back in danger!

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Release Date August 21st, 2013

Another "frothing at the mouth" one here.  This books series is wonderful (thus far, I haven't read the latest).  This is set in present times (what?! no post-apocolpytic world?!) but our world is not all that it seems.  There are magical and demonic forces at work.  Read this book.  Just read it.  Because as good as the trailer looks, it will not compare to the book.  I already know.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
Release Date August 7th, 2013

I honestly did not even think enough people saw the first Percy Jackson movie to heed a second installment.  I was wrong.  I really liked this book series.  It was cute, fun, and full of retellings of old myths.  The changes they made to the movie really irked me.  Like why is Percy 18 instead of 13?  Why is Annabeth not blonde?  Where the hell is Clarisse? Little things like that annoy the crap out of me. Luckily, at least one of those is rectified in this second movie.  Clarisse finally shows up.

Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin
Release Date unknown

OH MY GAWD THIS BOOK!  Go get this book.  Read it. Then read it again.  It is magical.  Set in an alternate universe where New York is full of magic and victorian values, the book revolves around a thief, a dying girl, and magical gangs.  A ridiculous amount of people are in the movie adaptation; Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly, Will Smith, Russel Crowe, Matt Bomer!  Oh, and there's a pegasus!  WHAT?!

Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters by Richelle Mead
Release Date February 14th, 2014

This is a book series that I started out loving, and then grew very bored with in like book three or four.  Hopefully the movie will recapture some of that old love.  The first book in this series focuses on Rose Hathaway, who is a Dhampir, half human/vampire and the vampire she is sworn to guard.  It's also a love story, though the love triangle really pissed me off in the book because she chose the wrong person.  IMHO.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug by JRR Tolkien
Release Date December 13th, 2013

You have read The Hobbit.  You know what this is.  You have to.  Watch the trailer if you haven't already.  Or hell, just watch it again.  It's amazaballs!  And to all the naysayers who complain about the novel being "dragged out" into three movies:  are you insane?!  We get three awesome movies instead of one!!!  Get over yourselves!

First Look At THE WINTER SOLDIER! (Updated with even more photos)

Here are some first look snapshots of Sebastian Stan portraying The Winter Soldier in the upcoming Captain America sequel!

Awwwwwee yeah!  Bucky is looking nice as The Winter Soldier!  And there is that hint of silver on his left hand; indicating a cybernetic arm perhaps?!

Some fans have predicted that CA:WS will NOT follow original comic canon, but will in fact reincarnate him as a robot.  This would make more sense to a general audience, but I really hope they don't go that route.  Stick to the script, kids!

Update:  YESSS!  Check out dat arm!

Big ups to DCMarvelFreshman over at CMB for these fantastic photo finds!
His original story is linked here: Sebastian Stan Dons Bionic Arm

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL: Flying Monkeys Feature

What could be cuter than a winged monkey sporting the voice of Zach Braff?  Maybe a puppy with Zach Braff's inner monologue.  Or even a Pur water filter with Zach's soothing tones.  Anything at all is cuter than the fusing of two of my worst nightmares: monkeys dressed as people and birds!  I will admit that Disney does a fair job of making it cute for normal people who do not share my irrational phobias.  Check it out for yourself.

Disney also released this behind the scenes feature:

Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask in X-Men: DOFP

I just learned that Peter Dinklage, of Game of Thrones fame, will be portraying the main villain in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (which will forever now be referred to as DOFP)!  MTVGeek is reporting that his character will be none other than Dr. Bolivar Trask, inventor of Master Mold and the Sentinel armies.

For those uninitiated in DOFP lore, in the original storyline Bolivar Trask was an anthropologist who saw the rise of mutants as a threat to humanity.  Bolivar decides that humanity has to fight back against the mutants and develops robotic guardians for humanity, known as the Sentinels. Bolivar publishes articles on the threat of mutants and generally harasses mutants on a regular basis.  Ironically, Bolivar's own son and daughter are both mutants.

Now there is also an alternative storyline in Marvel's "Ultimate" Universe that may fit the movie a bit better.  In those books, he’s a member of the government science team creating giant robot Sentinels as a direct response to Magneto’s attacks on the President of the United States.  The Ultimate Trask is definitely more of a sinister character, so I am very much hoping DOFP sticks with the Ultimate storyline.

Let's also not forget that Bolivar Trask has already been depicted in X-Men: The Last Stand by Bill Duke.  Though I personally choose to ignore The Last Stand entirely (mainly due to the killing of my favorite X-Man), I am pretty sure it still exists in movie canon.  Dinklage and Duke look completely different from each other, so either Marvel will just ignore that fact...or this is all make believe and MTVGeek has fed us nonsense.  Let's hope it's true though.
